Mexico - Cancun and Tijuana
It all begins with an idea…
Back in 2016, I was 29, I had never flown on a commercial aircraft before, never taken a “vacation” before, hell, I’d never been out of the United States (unless you can count that one time I went to Canada for a school trip back in the 10th grade!). My now husband and I decided it was time to take a vacation- our first one ever together. He had been on a cruise before and maybe one other random tropical destination before, but nothing with me.
I didn’t know where to start or what to do. My husband worked with a guy who’s wife was a vacation planner. So I went to her and we ended up joining her and a large group of acquaintances going to Cancun, Mexico for the end of the Spring Break season. We stayed at an All-Inclusive resort in the heart of the hotel district in Cancun. We did everything but RELAX.
Being it was my first time out of the country, I wanted to see and do it ALL! And I especially wanted to, and had to see Chichen Itza- the Mayan Step Pyramid. We booked 3 excursions during the week we were there, and went into a local shopping center about an hour from the hotel 2 different days. What I assumed was the “trip of a lifetime” (so naïve right?), only fueled my love of travel and history more! Oh, and to ruin the entire trip, you know…first time ever on vacation and all, my husband had to propose to me on the trip! Now I can’t hold him to any higher standards on our trips!
